It was a bright and sunny day. An eerie calm had descended upon the destroyed city, contrasting the normal busy atmosphere. Amid the wreckage of what we once called New York, there were corpses. Several thousand, in fact, filling the air with the foul stench of rotting flesh. I leaned closer over one of the lifeless bodies but reeled in shock when I saw movement. The entire city’s corpses were coming alive, I realized, and I had a sudden, ominous feeling I was about to join them.
